“Homeward Bound” Book Twins

Homeward Bound Book Twins | Red-Handled Scissors

I picked up a copy of Emily Matchar’s Homeward Bound: Why Women Are Embracing the New Domesticity [this is an affiliate link] at Powell’s Books to read tomorrow while I’m on the train from Portland to Vancouver, where I’ll be visiting my pal Kim and hitting Vancouver’s Mini Maker Faire. Imagine my surprise when the illustration on the cover was…me. (It’s not really, but the resemblance is pretty uncanny!)

Pretty crazy, right? All she needs is some green dye in her gray streak and a pair of red glasses!

If you’d like to learn more about the book, here’s a nice intro video from the author, plus an interview that she did on WNYC, my local NPR station. (For those of you following along on Twitter, this is the segment that I tried to call into a few weeks ago—I hit redial no fewer than 40 times, but I never made it through. I thought the segment was interesting, but it mostly focussed on lifestyle. They didn’t really talk to anyone like me who actually makes a living by writing about/teaching handmade techniques as viable, valuable life skills, which really would have added to the conversation.)

If you’d like to buy a copy of your own, you can pick one up here:

I hear really good things about this book, so I can’t wait to settle in on the train and get reading! Have you read it already? What did you think?
