Felt Rosettes vs. Hot Glue Phobia

I have a confession to make: I am a very crafty girl who does not own a hot glue gun. I’m afraid of them, and I’d rather do just about anything other than work with molten glue. (You see, there was this traumatic incident when I was a little kid involving the back of my hand and a malfunctioning glue feeder. Let’s suffice it to say that I still have the scar, and I now know better than to try to peel hot glue off of skin. Eew.) But, thanks to the Felt Rosette tutorial from Mrs. Priss, I might finally be forced to revisit my old nemesis.

Okay, it’s not exactly the rosettes’ fault. They definitely don’t require hot glue. It’s just that I really, really want to make hair clips with the darling little buds that I made this weekend, and I can’t think of a better way than hot glue to attached them to a barrette. I considered floral wire or sewing with clear thread, but both seem like they’d just end up poking me in the head and being uncomfortable.

So, all-knowing crafty folks, what’s your verdict? Is hot glue the only way to go, or is there something that you’d recommend that I might be less terrified to use? (Pretty please?)

Not exactly the answer to your question, but I got a hot glue gun from JoAnn Fabrics (which you should find on your mid-west trip). It was a teeny handheld thing that couldn't do a lot of damage if it wanted too. It dripped on my hands, and it was fine. It got hot enough to heat the glue, but that was it. It got the job done but was pretty harmless.

I use fabritac permanent adhesive (found at any craft or fabric store). It works great for all kinds of surfaces, and it doesn't burn your hand! Although it does get a little stringy like hot glue.
